Dr. Howard A. Zaren received a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Manitoba Medical School in Winnipeg, Canada. His postgraduate training included a general surgery residency at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, and a fellowship in surgical oncology at the University of Texas System Cancer Center, M.D. Anderson Hospital and Tumor Institute. After completing his fellowship training, he became a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia and was a private practicing surgical oncologist at Pennsylvania Hospital.
Dr. Zaren is a member of the American Medical Association, American College of Surgeons, Community Clinical Oncology Program Review Committee, Community Clinical Oncology Program Advisory Panel, Minority-Based Community Clinical Oncology Program CSTU Advisory Panel of the National Cancer Institute, American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Association for Cancer Research, Institute of Medicine, Society of Surgical Oncology and American Radium Society.
Dr. Zaren currently serves as the Medical Director for Melanoma, Skin and Sarcoma services and Medical Director for Medical Genetics. He also serves as Principal Investigator for the National Cancer Institute's Community Cancer Centers Program (NCCCP) and is a Georgia Cancer Coalition Distinguished Cancer Scholar and Professor, Department of Surgery at Georgia Health Sciences University.
